OUR HISTORY AND MISSION
3 Stars Cinema debuted on July 29th, 2001 at the
just-opened Angelika Film Center in Dallas. A sold-out audience of 300
people were in attendance for this premier event, featuring "Left
Luggage" starring Isabella Rosellini and Maximillian Schell.
Board members Susan Wilkofsky and Bart Weiss
welcomed the audience and explained the goal of 3 Stars Cinema, which
is to bring rarely seen Jewish film of the highest quality and greatest
diversity to this community. Morton Meyerson, one of the founders of 3
Stars Cinema, offered some personal comments on how the Jewish film
festival in San Francisco had moved and inspired him in recent years.
He wanted his own community to experience Jewish film of that quality
on a year-round basis.
Since 2001, 3 Stars Cinema has brought a diverse
array of thought provoking, inspiring, and entertaining Jewish-themed
films from around the world to the North Texas region. The mission of 3
Stars Cinema is to create a public forum for monthly screenings of
classic and contemporary Jewish-themed films, and to facilitate
post-film dialog and discussions. Following every film, a 3 Stars'
moderator and/or guest speakers conduct "open mike" exchanges with
audience members.
Through these films, 3 Stars Cinema hopes to offer
a deeper and more comprehensive insight into the diverse and often
complicated lives of Jews and Jewish communities around the globe and
throughout time.
3 Stars Cinema is supported in part by
